If your arm hair concern stops at the elbow, you do not need to book and pay for the full arm. Half arms covers the forearm from elbow to wrist, including the top of the hand and the fingers if you want them. Sessions run 20 to 25 minutes and the area is one of the easier zones to treat well. Most clients at ABL Med Spa book half arms because the forearm is what shows in a short sleeve, in a watch shot, in every photo at chest height. The upper arm spends most of its time covered or angled away. A planned series of 6 to 8 sessions on just the forearms gets you to maintenance for $79 per visit instead of the full arms rate.
What makes our half arms LHR different
The forearm sounds like one of the easier areas to treat, and the surface area is reasonable, but two specifics make the difference between a series that clears cleanly and a series that lingers. The first is the elbow itself. The skin folds and creases at the elbow are tricky to keep flat against the handpiece. Sloppy treatment of the elbow leaves a strip of regrowth that becomes the most visible part of the arm. Our providers slow down here and treat the elbow at multiple angles instead of running it as part of the forearm pass.
The second is the top of the hand. The hair pattern there is finer than the forearm, the skin tone often slightly darker from sun exposure, and the bony surface conducts heat differently than soft tissue. Treating the top of the hand at the same settings as the forearm leaves it under-treated. We adjust the energy specifically for the hand on every session.
We work on two devices for a reason. The Diode handles Fitzpatrick I through III at speed, with sapphire cooling that keeps the forearm comfortable during a fast pass. The Clarity II covers Fitzpatrick IV through VI safely, including the deeper skin tones that the forearm tends to develop after a few weekends in the sun. If your skin tone shifts over the year, we change devices instead of dropping energy below what the follicle needs to be destroyed.
What to expect at your half arms session
The day before your appointment, shave the entire treatment zone from the elbow down to the wrist on both sides, plus the top of the hand if you are including it. If you have darker hair, you can run the razor over the top of the fingers too. If you miss a spot or are unsure where the upper edge of “half arms” sits, we will trim what is needed when you arrive, no extra charge.
At your appointment, you will sit comfortably with your forearms resting on a cushion. Your provider will outline the treatment area and confirm any sun exposure, new medications, or skin changes since your last visit. We do a quick test pulse on a small area before going full speed, especially on a first session or after a sun-exposed weekend.
The treatment itself is quick. Sapphire-cooled handpieces press lightly against the skin, the laser fires in overlapping passes, and you will feel a series of warm snaps. Most clients describe it as a rubber band flick followed by a cool spot. The top of the hand and the inner elbow tend to be the most sensitive zones; the outer forearm is the easiest. If you want a numbing cream applied beforehand, mention it when you book and we will set it on 25 to 30 minutes before your slot.
From start to finish, plan on 20 to 25 minutes in the room. You walk out, drive yourself home, and go about your day. Mild redness around the follicles is normal for an hour or two.
Aftercare for half arms LHR
For the first 24 hours, skip hot showers, the sauna, hot yoga, and any workout that is going to flush the skin. Cool to lukewarm water and a fragrance-free moisturizer is the entire protocol on day one. Aloe is fine if you have a piece going.
For the first 48 hours, treat the area like sensitive skin. Mineral SPF 50 if you are heading outside, even for a quick errand or a school pickup. The forearm spends more time in the sun than almost any other zone we treat, which is part of why aftercare matters here. The follicles are reactive after treatment and pigment changes from a bad sunburn in this window can stick around longer than the burn itself. We are stricter about sun than other providers in the area because the data is on our side, and a careful series will outperform a sloppy one every time.
Around days 7 to 14, you will see what looks like new hair pushing through. It is not new growth. The laser disrupted the follicle and the hair shaft is being shed from below. A gentle scrub in the shower with a washcloth or sugar scrub speeds this up. The forearms will feel patchy for about a week, then smooth out.
Between sessions, the only allowed hair removal method is shaving. Waxing, sugaring, threading, and plucking all pull the follicle out of the cycle the laser needs to hit. If you wax between sessions, the next appointment cannot do anything meaningful and you essentially pay for a placeholder. Shave as often as you like, including the day of your next visit.

Does half arms include the top of the hand and fingers?
Yes, both are included if you want them. Most clients have us treat the top of the hand and skip the fingers, but if your finger hair is something you notice, mention it at the consult and we will add it to the protocol at no additional charge. The treatment time stays the same.
Where exactly does “half arms” start and end?
Half arms covers from the crease of the elbow down to the wrist, both front and back, plus the top of the hand. If you want the upper arm (shoulder to elbow) included, that is the full arms service. We can also customize the zone at your consult if your hair pattern stops earlier or extends slightly past the elbow.
I have a few stubborn dark hairs that grow back fast. Will those clear?
Yes, and those are often the easiest hairs to treat. Dark, coarse, well-pigmented hair responds best to laser. The hairs you find yourself plucking or shaving most often are the ones the laser eliminates first. By session 3 or 4, the stubborn dark hairs are usually gone.
Will I have to skip the gym after my appointment?
One day off from hot, sweaty workouts is enough. After 24 hours, you can return to your normal routine. Pilates, walking, weight training in a cool gym, all of those are fine the same day. The reason we ask you to skip the hot ones is heat and sweat can irritate freshly treated follicles, which is uncomfortable rather than dangerous.
