The first time you saw a recent photo of yourself and thought “I look tired,” it may not have been about sleep. Somewhere around the early 30s the cheek pad starts thinning, the fat compartments above and below it shift, and the midface loses the quiet lift that keeps a rested face looking rested. Hyaluronic acid cheek filler is one of the most efficient ways to put that structure back, without changing the face you recognize in the mirror.
This is one of our most asked-about treatments at ABL, and one of the ones we’re most careful with. The goal is restoration, not reinvention. Below is exactly how we do it.
What makes our cheek filler different
We use the RHA Collection by Teoxane, a hyaluronic acid product line designed to move with your expressions instead of looking stiff at rest. RHA 4, the heavier formulation in the line, is what we typically place deeper in the midface for structural lift. It holds shape under expression and softens at rest, which is the look most of our clients are actually after.
Beyond the product, four things shape how the treatment lands:
- Mapped placement, not template placement. Every face loses volume in different compartments. Gaby walks through your photos and your face with you at the consult, marks placement with a white pencil, and shows you in the mirror before anything else happens.
- Cannula or needle. A cannula is a blunt-tipped tube that slides between tissues instead of cutting through them. It bruises less and is what we reach for in the cheek when bruising is a concern. If you have a wedding or a photo shoot coming up, tell us.
- Physician-supervised, every visit. Dr. Eric Guy is the medical oversight on every injectable session at ABL. You will not be handed off to someone you have not met.
- Conservative first dose. We would rather see you back for a small top-up at two weeks than overcorrect on day one. Most first sessions are 1 to 2 syringes. A small number of clients add a third syringe at the follow-up. That two-week visit is part of the price.
What to expect at your cheek filler session
Your first appointment is a free 20-minute consultation. Gaby looks at your face at rest and in motion, asks where you feel the change, reviews your history (any blood thinners, recent dental work, autoimmune conditions, prior filler), and lays out a plan with specific syringe counts and an honest cost.
If you decide to move forward, treatment can happen the same day if the schedule allows, or on a future visit if you want to think it over.
On treatment day:
- Numbing cream is applied for 15 to 20 minutes. The RHA product itself has lidocaine mixed in, so the area ends up double-numb by the time injections begin.
- Gaby re-marks placement with you sitting upright, since gravity changes how the face sits.
- The injections themselves take 20 to 30 minutes. Most clients describe a pressure feeling rather than pain.
- You will see volume change immediately. Some swelling, a few small bumps, and occasional minor bruising are normal and resolve as the product settles over two weeks.
- Most clients walk out, drive themselves home, and return to normal activities the same day, with the aftercare limits below.
Your two-week follow-up is built into the price. We look at the settled result together, decide whether to add a small amount of product, and adjust anything that is asymmetric.
Aftercare for cheek filler
Most people feel completely normal within a day or two. The aftercare is mostly about giving the product time to integrate cleanly into your tissue, and about not making bruising worse.
- First 24 hours: avoid pressure on the cheeks. Skip the deep facial massage, do not sleep face down if you can help it, and avoid any dental work for a few days.
- First 24 to 48 hours: no strenuous exercise, no saunas, no hot yoga. Heat dilates blood vessels and makes swelling worse.
- First 24 hours: skip alcohol where you can. Alcohol thins the blood and makes bruising more likely.
- Bruising help: arnica gel, applied gently, and a cool (not iced) compress in 10-minute intervals. Avoid ibuprofen and other NSAIDs for the first 24 hours unless you already take them daily for another reason.
- Travel: if you are flying within 48 hours, let us know at the consult so we can plan timing.
- Two-week follow-up: we want to see you back. This is when the product is fully settled and when small adjustments make the biggest difference.
Call or text the office at (512) 721-0274 if you notice anything unusual, like a section of skin that feels cold, looks pale, or develops a sharp pain. We pick up on weekends for issues like this.
Often paired with this treatment
Cheek filler restores the structural midface, but it rarely works alone. Three pairings come up most often at ABL:
Pricing and packages
- $650 per syringe of RHA Collection (RHA 4 or RHA 3, depending on placement).
- Most first-time clients use 1 to 2 syringes. We will not push more product than you actually need.
- Two-week follow-up included.
- ABL membership clients get consistent pricing on injectables and priority access to Gaby’s calendar. Ask about it at your consult.
