Chin hair is the kind people check for in the rearview mirror before walking into anything important. A few coarse strands that catch the light, a patch along the jawline that came in different than the rest, the spot that always needs a tweezer at the end of the day. Tweezing keeps it manageable, but the schedule never ends. Chin laser hair removal cuts that schedule down to once or twice a year. At ABL Med Spa in Round Rock, the session takes about 10 minutes, and most clients notice the difference by their third or fourth visit.
What makes chin LHR different
Chin hair is often driven by hormones, which is why it tends to come in coarser and darker than the rest of your facial hair. The coarseness is actually good news for the laser. The more pigment in the follicle, the better the energy can disable it. The complication is the location. The chin and jawline have more curvature than the upper lip, and the skin sits closer to the bone, so treatment can feel different. Gabriela uses the Clarity II laser on the chin because it is safe for every skin tone and its built-in cooling handles the firmer skin without irritating it. She adjusts settings zone by zone along the chin and jawline, so the coarse central hair and the lighter perimeter hair both get treated correctly.
What to expect at your chin session
Plan on about 10 minutes from when you sit down to when you walk out. Protective eyewear goes on, the area gets a quick prep, and the laser passes over your chin and immediate jawline in a series of short warm snaps. Coarse chin hair feels a little warmer during treatment than lighter upper lip hair, but most clients still rate it more comfortable than waxing. There is no downtime. You walk out and go back to your day. Over the next two to three weeks the treated hairs shed, and you will notice fewer hairs coming in between visits. Six to eight sessions, spaced four to six weeks apart, lets us catch every follicle during its active growth phase. If your chin hair is hormonally driven (common with PCOS or perimenopause), periodic maintenance after the initial plan keeps results consistent.
Aftercare for chin LHR
Skip foundation, concealer, and tinted SPF on the treated area for the first 24 hours. Keep the skin clean. No direct sun on the chin for 48 hours. If you are outside, SPF 50 mineral sunscreen and a wide-brim hat are non-negotiable. Avoid hot water, saunas, and strenuous workouts for 24 hours, since heat can irritate the freshly treated follicles. Hot drinks held under the chin (coffee mugs, ramen bowls, soup spoons) also count as heat for the first day. Mild redness for a few hours is normal. If you feel a faint tingling a day or two later, that is the follicles shedding.
Often paired with this treatment
Most clients who treat their chin also book one or two of these:
- Upper Lip LHR ($40). The chin and upper lip share the same hormonal growth pattern. Treating both together avoids the patchy reduction look that comes from treating one area in isolation.
- Sideburns LHR ($40). If you have darker hair along the jawline that extends back toward the ears, adding sideburns gives you a fully even face.
- Full Face LHR ($120). If you are already considering chin plus upper lip plus sideburns, full face usually makes more sense and treats peach fuzz too.

Frequently asked questions
Is chin hair growth a sign of something hormonal?
Sometimes. New or persistent coarse chin hair, especially alongside other changes, can be linked to hormonal shifts like PCOS, perimenopause, or thyroid changes. Laser hair removal treats the hair you have right now, but it does not address the underlying cause. If your chin hair has changed recently and you are not sure why, talking to your primary care provider is worth it. We can still treat the hair while you sort out the cause.
Will the hair grow back if I take a break between sessions?
Most hair will not grow back once the follicle has been disabled. Hormonal hair growth is different. New follicles can become active later in life if your hormones shift, which is why some clients need occasional maintenance after the initial plan. The hair you treat now is gone for the long term. Future hair from new follicles is a separate situation.
Does treating the chin and jawline together make sense?
Yes, and we recommend it for most clients. The hormonal hair pattern that puts hair on the chin usually puts a few hairs along the jawline too. Treating just the chin can leave a small fringe of hair where the chin ends, which is more visible than the chin hair was. Most chin treatments at ABL include the immediate jawline area for that reason.
I had laser elsewhere and the hair came back. Why?
Three common reasons. First, the previous provider used a laser that was not the right match for your skin or hair type, so the energy did not fully disable the follicle. Second, you completed fewer sessions than your hair needed. Hair grows in cycles, and missing the active growth phase means missing some follicles entirely. Third, hormonal changes activated new follicles that were dormant during your previous treatment. Gabriela will ask about your past treatment at the consultation and tell you which of these is likely.
