Upper lip hair has a way of showing up in every selfie and every car-visor moment on a sunny drive. Tweezing leaves a faint shadow. Waxing buys you three weeks before stubble shows up again. Threading is gentler, but you are back at the salon every two weeks. Upper lip laser hair removal ends the cycle. At ABL Med Spa in Round Rock, the treatment takes around 10 minutes, and most clients see real reduction by their third or fourth session.
What makes upper lip LHR different
Upper lip hair is fine but stubborn, and the skin underneath is some of the thinnest on your face. That combination matters more than people realize. The laser has to deliver enough energy to disable the follicle without irritating the skin around it. Gabriela uses the Clarity II laser on the upper lip for that exact reason. It is safe for every skin tone, including darker skin types that older lasers could not handle well, and its built-in cooling keeps the area comfortable. She adjusts settings in real time based on what your skin is showing her during the session.
What to expect at your upper lip session
Plan on about 10 minutes from when you sit down to when you walk out. Protective eyewear goes on, the area gets a quick prep, and the laser passes over your upper lip in a series of short warm snaps. Most clients say it feels less intense than threading or waxing, just faster and warmer. There is no downtime, no peeling, no special aftercare beyond the basics below. Over the next two to three weeks, the treated hairs shed naturally as your body works through the disabled follicles. Six to eight sessions, spaced four to six weeks apart, lets us catch every follicle during its active growth phase. Consistency matters more than session count alone.
Aftercare for upper lip LHR
Skip foundation, concealer, and tinted SPF on the treated area for the first 24 hours. Keep the skin clean. No direct sun on the upper lip for 48 hours. If you are outside, a wide-brim hat and SPF 50 mineral sunscreen are non-negotiable. Avoid hot water, saunas, and strenuous workouts for 24 hours, since heat can irritate the freshly treated follicles. Mild redness for a few hours is normal. If you feel a faint tingling a day or two later, that is the follicles shedding.
Often paired with this treatment
Most clients who book their upper lip also add one or two of these:
- Chin LHR ($40). Hormonal hair growth affects the chin and jawline along the same pattern as the upper lip. Treating both together avoids the patchy reduction look that comes from treating one area in isolation.
- Sideburns LHR ($40). If you have terminal hair extending past the ears, adding sideburns gives you a fully even face.
- Full Face LHR ($120). If you are already planning upper lip plus chin plus sideburns, full face usually makes more sense and treats peach fuzz too.

Frequently asked questions
Is upper lip laser hair removal safe during pregnancy?
We ask pregnant clients to wait until after delivery. There is no published evidence that laser energy on the upper lip harms a pregnancy, but hormonal changes during pregnancy make follicles less responsive and your skin more reactive. You would be paying for sessions that produce weaker results. Most clients pick treatment back up postpartum.
Will I have darker skin or a shadow after treatment?
Some clients with darker skin tones experience mild post-inflammatory pigmentation, especially if they skip the post-treatment SPF. The Clarity II laser is specifically designed for darker skin, but sun exposure on freshly treated skin can cause temporary darkening. Wear SPF 50 and avoid direct sun for 48 hours and you should be fine.
How many sessions until I can stop daily upkeep?
Most clients see noticeable reduction by session three or four. By session six to eight, most people are down to occasional touch-ups every six to twelve months rather than daily tweezing or weekly waxing. Upper lip hair is fine but persistent, so give the full plan a chance before judging the result.
Does laser work on blonde, gray, or red upper lip hair?
Less well. Laser energy targets pigment in the follicle, so the more pigment, the better the result. If your upper lip hair is very fine and light, results will be slower and less dramatic. We will be straight with you at the consultation about what you can realistically expect.
