Underarm hair is a particular kind of small problem. You shave most mornings, deodorant goes on the freshly shaved skin, and by the end of the day there is stubble where the razor missed and irritation where the razor and the deodorant both hit the same square inch of skin. Underarm laser hair removal ends that cycle. At ABL Med Spa in Round Rock, the underarm session takes about 10 minutes. Most clients see real reduction by their third or fourth session, and most have stopped shaving the underarms entirely by their sixth.

What makes underarm LHR different

Underarm hair is coarse, dense, and dark, which is exactly what the laser is built to target. The Diode laser at ABL handles underarms with fewer sessions than fine-hair areas need, because there is more pigment in the follicle for the laser to find. The skin under the arms is thicker than facial skin but more sensitive than leg skin, so treatment energy gets calibrated specifically for the area. Gabriela uses the Diode as the default for underarms, with the Clarity II as the alternative for darker skin tones. Built-in cooling keeps the area comfortable throughout the session.

What to expect at your underarm session

Plan on about 10 minutes from when you sit down to when you walk out. Shave both underarms completely the day before your appointment. We treat both sides in the same session. Lift your arm, the area gets a quick prep, and the laser passes over the underarm in a series of short warm snaps. Repeat on the other side. Most clients describe it as the most painless body area to treat, partly because the hair is so easy for the laser to find. There is no downtime. You walk out and continue your day. Over the next two to three weeks the treated hairs shed. Six sessions is typical for underarms, sometimes fewer than other body areas because coarse hair responds fast.

Aftercare for underarm LHR

Skip deodorant on the treated area for the first 24 hours. Skip aluminum-based antiperspirants for 48 hours. Hot showers, saunas, and intense workouts go on pause for 24 hours, since heat irritates freshly treated follicles. Loose breathable fabric for the first 24 hours. Mild redness or small raised bumps at the follicle for a few hours is normal. If you feel a faint tingling a day or two later, that is the follicles shedding.

Often paired with this treatment

Most clients who book underarms also add one or two of these:

  • Bikini Line LHR ($79). Same Diode laser, same coarse-hair logic, similar session length. The two most-common pairings start here.
  • Brazilian LHR ($125). If you are going further than bikini line, Brazilian covers the full area including the labia and perianal region.
  • Full Legs LHR ($240). Once underarms and bikini are off the maintenance list, legs are usually next.

Frequently asked questions

Why does underarm hair respond faster than other areas?

Underarm hair is coarse and dark, which gives the laser more pigment to work with. The follicle is also closer to the skin surface than in pelvic or leg areas, so the energy reaches it efficiently. Most underarm clients see meaningful reduction by session three and complete their treatment plan in six sessions, which is one or two fewer than many other body areas.

Can I use deodorant or antiperspirant after my session?

Skip both for the first 24 hours. Aluminum-based antiperspirants in particular can irritate freshly treated follicles. After 24 hours, a gentle deodorant is fine. Some clients find they need less aggressive antiperspirant after their treatment plan because there is less hair holding moisture against the skin.

Will laser stop my underarms from sweating?

Laser hair removal targets hair follicles, not sweat glands, so it does not change how much you sweat. Some clients notice their underarms feel cleaner and stay drier in practice because hair holds moisture and odor against the skin. Removing the hair removes that variable. If excessive underarm sweating is the actual problem you want to solve, we can talk about other options at your consultation.

What if I have ingrown hairs or razor bumps right now?

Treat anyway. Laser is one of the better solutions for ongoing ingrowns and razor bumps in the underarm area, since the source is the hair follicle and the shaving cycle. You may see existing ingrowns clear out over the first two or three sessions as old hairs work their way out and new ones do not grow back. Once your treatment plan is complete, the cycle stops.
